I remember the day vividly. The day our company decided to upgrade our phone system to incorporate a “page” feature. What at first was a novel convenience for our “Donut Guy” to serenade us with a poem about donuts on Friday when he brought them in for all of us, has become a annoying curse that has blighted my ears far too often..

People have become addicted to it.. It’s like: “we have the feature so now we have to use it!”

In the 8 years that we have had the “page feature” I have identified and categorized the abusers:

1) The Delilah/Kacey Kacem: You know how Kasey Kacem has a style and delivery of narrative? Well these are the people who suddenly hit the page button and it’s “Here’s a long distance dedication for “so and so” to come to the (insert conference room name here.)” Please stop your voice and narrative is not that good.

2) Lazy man/woman #1: They refuse to look at and/or even print an extension list.. So thus, rather than call the person directly they page them… Please stop…

3) Lazy man/woman #2: Rather than get their fat ass off the desk chair they are sitting on and walk to the person and/or find the person they then of course revert to Lazy man/woman #1. Seriously, get off your f’ing ass!

4) The deflector: These are the people who give the receptionist a bad name.. You call the deflector and they look at caller ID and say no way am I talking to the customer so the receptionist now has to page the deflector…. Hey I got an idea; Talk to our f’ing customer and make them f’ing happy and maybe just maybe our new contract bid will be accepted!

5) Self Important Regress: This person starts off as “Hey I’m very important and I just thought of a stupid useless time wasting question that I need (insert his underling’s name here) to answer.” and boom! They regress to either Lazy man/woman #1 and/or #2… Seriously, stupid questions are for e-mail so we can document your stupidity..

6) Impatient Regress #1: Oh this is the one that gets to me… They are very close to “Self Important” they get their question and or info and they sometimes, albeit rarely, call their person they need/want, The person might just at that moment might be on the can coaxing a turtle head to come all the way out and they immediately regress to Lazy Man/Woman #1 and/or #2.. Come on is it really that important you cannot wait 5-10 minutes and try calling them again?

7) Impatient Regress #2: If you thought Impatient Regress #1 was annoying? They regress immediately to Lazy man/woman #1 and/or #2, they page the person they need/want and less than 1 minute later they page again… Then 1 minute later they are paging yet again, sometimes as a bonus they then page the person’s supervisor. Seriously? WTF?

If you think I’m annoyed by all these “pagings” you are correct. And I’m not alone. One employee here got so annoyed about the situation he actually used epoxy on a piece of slate to cover the speaker on his phone so he did not have to hear all these pages… Never mind that he has now permanently disabled the “speaker phone” ability on his phone but think about it. To be that desperate.. Ironically at the time that he did it I really did not think the “pages” were as bad as they are now…

The thing is; I’m starting to think like these people… I catch myself sometimes in “mid page” doing exactly what these f’tards are doing…

Pages can be very distracting.. At one point yesterday the receptionist and others paged 12 people in 15 minutes… That’s almost a page a minute! Am I the only one who gets annoyed by this?

You know? Fundamentally I’m actually a pretty healthy guy… I mean for the most part I don’t get sick very often.. It’s usually a major sickness when I do though…

But I got the “you’re always sick” comment. The other day… Sigh… Really? So I started to do the mental calculations of how often I have been sick within the last year and a half.

It’s not that I get sick often it’s actually that when I do it hits so hard and lingers… Like it just will not go away no matter how much over the counter medication and rest I try to throw at it..

Today I woke up.. Just like every day for the past 2 weeks… Unable to breathe through my nose.. I’m mostly fine during work and then at the end of the day at night my nose and sinuses become so inflamed I can feel the walls of my nasal passages stretching and pushing against my skull.

At one point I was wishing my skull would implode..

I’m blaming Purel.. I mean, It’s America and I have to blame someone right? Purel is literally causing people to have “Germ Paranoia” that now makes people so sterile they have no imunity.. Thus the Viri that are making it into the environment are now the super virus.. The Virus that can survive the Purel onslaught has surpassed our natural immunity factor that can combat it in a reasonable manner..

And since I’m the one person in the facility that I work at that refuses to use it because it that makes your work place absolutely disgusting… Don’t believe me? Go to a Purel user’s cubicle or computer… Look at their keyboard and mouse… OMG what the hell is that crap? It’s dried congealed Purel holding Virus in stasis and the few that survives that are now stronger and more “virulent” then ever..

I honestly believe there is also a mild sedative in Purel that makes the user believe that this caked up crap on their machine is “normal.” I mean…. Eeewwwww……

Watch a Purel user sometime… It’s really creepy actually… They get this look of absolute euphoria.. after they rub their hands in it they immediately put their fingers up to their nose and inhale the scent like coke addict inhaling the last bit of his fix..

But I really just wish this cold would leave for good….. Seriously this sucks!

OK so most of you have seen the basement… Well the Overhead projector was getting very very tired… Besides the fact that the bulb was turning yellow it had a power issue at times that it would not recognize inputs at power up unless it was off for more than 30 minutes..

I started to shop for a new bulb and realized depending on where I went it was anywhere from 200 bucks to 600 bucks for the bulb… A weird skew in pricing that nobody I talked to on the phone could explain..

I started to think of maybe just buying a new projector… A good new projector was anywhere from 800 bucks to 1500 bucks for a projector that was HD compatible and could make a big picture in a 12×14 room…

I realized maybe a big plasma or LCD was in order… There were other factors…I wanted to get a TV because to be honest when you have kids you want to make it easy for them to use so you can get rid of them for a bit and relax…. Ask me to tell you stories about sand in my bed sometime.. Let’s just say when you want to watch something with your wife and the kids want f’ing “Sponge Bob” and the home theater PC is too complex for the 7 and 5 year old to master they use your bedroom TV after they have been in a playground… Sand in your bed is not comfy…

So with a few months research and shopping on line I decided I wanted nice black levels, fast response times, and most importantly cheap.. Thus plasma was the way to go.. I did an immense amount of research.. I have to say In the LCD world I’m pretty much a snob for Samsung since they actually manufactures the majority of the LCDs on the market.. Plasma was a new thing for me.. I waded through a few of the myths bud decided the 2 brands I liked were the Panasonic Viera and Samsung… I looked at LG’s as well and to be honest they looked real good, but while a lot of people loved the pictures on the units it was the “Little things” like Remote compatibility that were big in complaints…

Panasonic was the most well reviewed but price was way over my budget… the only out and out complaint I could find on Samsungs was the sound quality. Since I was planning on using a pro-logic receiver anyway this was not a huge factor.

I realized with the size of my room I could go to 50” very comfortably and well within my budget… 55-65” sizes were just way out of budget and would have been nice but the 50 is a nice comfy size and realistically, as compared to my old projector, I loose about 4 and 7/8” of horizontal viewing…

I decided to rebuild my shelves.. I was going to get a wall mount but who knew wall mounts were so f’ing expensive!!! A good wall mount was 200-300 bucks I could find them cheaper sure but I realized building my own shelves would be more practical, useful, and rewarding..

New TV on the Shelves I built.

With much searching I found my TV the only one within 20 miles was at Sears for $799 at the Mall of NH in Manchvegas… Dawn asked if I was going to get a Blue Ray with it so we went to the other side of the mall and got a matching Samsung Blu-Ray for $149 on sale that has internet capability so if I want I can download movies from Netflix or Blockbuster and surf U-Tube as well…

While at Best-Buy I was lamenting that I was going to have to somehow fit in Comcast dropping a box off.. Nope! As it turns out there is a Comcast booth in the middle of Best Buy and they gave me an HDMI cable and Hi Def box…
When I built the shelves I Painted them Mudslide Brown.. I decided to paint my Doors and trim that color as well and I’m very pleased with the results.. Dawn and I are planning on a leather recliner and loveseat to replace the beat up furniture currently in use

This is an open letter to my fellow coworkers. Some of you may not like what I am about to say and if I offend any of my coworkers…. Tough Shit! Get over it! Or more to the point, Grow the fuck up!

Look I get it. The recent changes have stressed you out.. I’m depressed about our founder leaving as well but when a company announces that there is going to be 6% cuts across the board, I would never think to start taking out my frustrations on said company and its employees. Cases in point:

To my fellow coworkers who are not potty trained:

What the FUCK!!!! While I have gotten used to “But Gasket” guy (Guy who must line the toilet seat with toilet paper and does not then flush it down.) I cannot get used to “dried shit on side of toilet” guy… Really!?!? You have to shit on the side of the toilet and leave it for all to see!?!? Really!?!?

And what the fuck is up with you “Piss on the floor” guy?!?! Really?!?! Pissing on the floor?!?! I’m not talking “Oops I missed I’m talking to you “blatantly piss on the floor in front of sink” guy.. You disgust me!!!! I can’t even fathom the thought process you go through to say “I’ll show the man! And I’ll piss on the floor of the bathroom!” I swear to you if I caught you doing it I would punch you in the fucking face! You do realize “the man” does not clean this up right?

To my fellow coworkers who are thieves:

So we had a new wing added on. New furniture came in and somebody stole a conference room chair. Come on!!!! Stealing a chair?!?! Again the thought process eludes me… I mean really?!?! “the Man” is not here and has no clue so your shady escapade only annoys us that are still employed here and now we wonder if you will be stealing crap off our desk..

To my fellow coworkers who chew gum:

Brand new wing, brand new carpet, in fact carpet is not even down for ½ an hour. Now I’m not sure if you are walking and chewing gum do you suddenly realize later “Wait a sec, I had a piece of gum in my mouth. Where’d it go?” This was blatant disrespectful vandalism! If you accidentally drop it pick it up!! But the act of then stepping on it?!?! Really?!?! At least have the balls to admit your stupidity!!!!

To my fellow coworkers who drink coffee:

Why do you fucking people have to fill your god forsaken cup to the very limits of molecular cohesion and then spill it in the fucking hallway on the way back to your desk?!?! I mean if you want that much more coffee get a bigger coffee mug you cheep lazy motherfuckers!!!!

And to the motherfucker who blatantly spilled a trail in the new wing… Really?!?! Again, it’s childish vandalism and all you are doing is making work for your fellow coworkers who have been here just as long, if not longer, than you have… If you accidently spilled it again have the decency to tell somebody!

To my coworkers who are cry baby coddled children:

GET OVER IT!!! And really just STFU! Yes the company is now corporate… and you know what? It’s gonna stay that way… Maybe someday someone from here will leave and do another start up and start calling us in and we can temporarily relish not being in the corporate world, but really, until that really happens shut the fuck up! I don’t like it either but I suck it up and do my job!

All you are doing is spreading your unhappiness and raining on my parade! I’m supposed to be happy in the twilight here of just being barely under 40 and expecting my 3rd kid, but no!!! I have to come in and listen to all your crying about how it used to be when we were in “the house” and how much easier it was to do our jobs and not have to be “Compliant” with rules and regulations..(Ironically, some of you were the same people crying about our lack of space in the house.)

And to all my fellow coworkers whao are jealous mother fuckers:

Guess what yes… a few people made a crap load of money… They also sacrificed and had 4 and in one case 5 mortgages to start up our company and get you your job… They went home at night and prayed to god that they could work hard and hired the right people with the right stuff to make sure they could get out from under the hole they got themselves into. And holy shit! The late hours of our founder coming in on Saturdays (I know cause he used to call me for help on occasion.) paid off! His investment and sacrifice paid off big time.

And you jealous mother fuckers get all pissy because they got a bigger office… Fuck You! Shut the fuck up! The reality here for you “coworkers who are not potty trained,” and “coworkers who are thieves,” and “coworkers who chew gum,” and “coworkers who drink coffee” and most especially “coworkers who are cry baby coddled children,” is that if you are that fucking miserable allow me to show you the fucking exit sign… In fact I’ll gladly hold the door for you…

And more importantly “GROW THE FUCK UP!!!”

But I can catch Metal! F@%&!!!!!!!!! Ok so Today after getting up and
looking outside and realizing it’s wet outside and not what the forecast
was the day before (partly sunny).. I decided to hop in the truck and
head to a motorcycle superstore.

I ended up picking up some Boots and a new set of Gauntlet gloves which
really was a surprise as they were waiting for their XMAS inventory that
was already a week late in arriving.. But the gloves fit nice and the
Boots were nice as well and all said and done for both I paid just over
200 buckaroos.

When I got back to the in-laws I looked up the weather as it was
starting to dry up when I was driving home.. There appeared to be a
quick window of semi decent weather so I put on the new boots and gear
checked my tire pressures and headed out.

I decided since I headed south east yesterday I would try north west
today and see how far I could make it…… Well… Apparently, not very
far…

I was cruising along route 56 in Creedmoor NC and began thinking… I
could jump on Interstate 85 north and pick up 158 or something like
that(was doing all this in my head from memory.) and make up for lost
time in the morning..

I jumped on the interstate and felt that feeling that nobody on a
motorcycle ever wants to feel when you are cruising at 88 MPH… No I
did not get struck by a bolt of lightning, and no I did not break the
laws of the “space-time” continuum… My rear tire started to feel
funny…

I pulled off at a rest stop and my Phone began to chime for a text
message from Dawn. I looked at her text and momentarily got distracted
and went inside the rest area to check a real map to check my memory.
Yup I thought “hey I’ll ask the GPS to give me the quickest route to the
intersection of Rt159 and state road 1139…

So I decide to Call Dawn on my way to the bike and check in..as I’m
talking to her I get back to the bike and I remember “oh yeah the tire
felt funny.” That’s because of the real shiny piece of metal sticking
out… F@%&!!!!!!!!! Seriously!!!!! Really!!!!!

I still have a bit of pressure not much… I went from 42psi to 28….
SO I punch in the shortest route home… Luckily the direct route means
I’m only 25 minutes away…. I limp the bike home and I’m done with NC
till next year I guess…. F@%&!!!!!!!

I took a picture of the shiny bit:

Really!?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?!

All in all though the riding around here is really nice… I cannot wait
to bring the bike back next time and I might try and convince dawn that
I might need to do an overnighter out further west… The Blue Ridge
Parkway beckons me… Maybe I can convince everyone to go and we can
make it a riding/touristy thing… I would love to take a picture of the

We actually arrived late in the day on Saturday. I discovered that
Towing your pride and joy for 14 and a half hours is rather stressful.
Towards the end the tongue loosened up on the trailer side. It’s really
fine but to watch the bike moving more than it was in the rearview
mirror was a little disconcerting. I’ll have it fixed before we go home.

I should have gone out Sunday. But I was spending time with family and
helping out my Brother-in-law. He and my Father-in-Law had already
changed the oil and I helped out and got my hands dirty while rotating
the tires on his truck. It was during this that I had repeatedly told my
Son to stop sending a toy stroller belonging to my daughter down the
driveway uncontrolled. It almost hit the motorcycle and I told him to
cut it out..

We got the air compressor out and I wheeled the bike behind my
brother-in-law’s truck and turned around to see my daughter come flying
down the driveway in the stroller that I had told my son to not send
down the driveway… She then flies uncontrolled at speed into the front
bumper of my truck… So, my wife makes a trip to the ER to get 5
stitches on Miranda’s forehead. She was lucky, 6 inches to the left and
it would have been a tow hook in the teeth.. Oh and she hit so hard that
the “check airbag” light comes on every once in a while now.

Monday became a Bust because the clouds rolled in and it rained the
entire day….. Sigh…..

A quick look at the forecast predicted cloudy skies for Tuesday.. Screw
it! I came here to ride and by god I will ride! Now in unloading I
realized I had forgotten my Tank bag, small camera, and of course my
tank bag has my rain gear.. So if it rains while I’m out… I’m getting
wet…So a special thanks to the in-laws for letting me borrow a small
camera.. I loaded up a backpack and with my cell phone, and a few
Mountain Dews for the road.

My original plan for the not getting too lost was to put my GPS in my
tank bag behind the clear top… With no tank bag a 24 dollar purchase
at Radio Shack and a bunch of Zip-Ties and I mounted my GPS to the left
side of the handlebars. I’m still trying to decide if I want a permanent
mount for this thing or a future better GPS…It’s nice for when you
have no clue where the hell you are…

Looking back a typical NC road in NC from the church...

So all loaded up I rode for a few hours winding in a south east
direction.. Motoring around a few back roads of Wake Forrest. I eventually found Route 96 and I went through towns like: Rolesville, Emit, Zebulon, Jordan, Selma, Smithfield, until I found a church parking lot to pull into and figure out where the hell I was… (Oh… bad choice of words??)

I decided to turn around and pick a different direction. Suddenly, I saw signs for one of the Battlefields from the Confederate Wars. Pointing the bike in that direction down route 701 I blasted the 17 miles to the battlefield. I never actually went to the visitors center but continued along and found an entrance to one of the federal earthworks occupied by the federal troops in the battle of 1865.. It was muddy as all hell but I snagged a pic of the bike in front of the entrance to the woods and another deep inside the woods where I chickened out and would not go further with the bike.

Entrance to the Federal Earthworks..

Could not go any further than this...

I rode back towards the visitor center and found a bit more of the
battlefield memorial site that has quite a few headstones from members
who had fought during the battle.. There was a special memorial erected
in 1893.. I walked the fields and realized it was downright eerie
quiet… You could hear yourself breathing and there is an occasional
bird song but otherwise not a car to be heard, not a single plane
overhead.. As I walked I spotted a set of trenches that were left over
from some of the original battle but get rebuilt for re-enactments that
occur.. Indeed there was even a cannon put in place.

A cannon in the trenches

Hmmm I just realized the Cannon is pointing at the VFR in the distance...

As I walked back marveling at the quiet I noticed the bike sitting where
I had left it. Sitting near the monument and behind it across the road
cotton fields. Even though it was chilly, cloudy, what a ride!

The VFR sitting near the Monument. Not the Cotton fields on the other side of the road

I got back on the bike and headed back to the in-laws… It was at this
point I noticed the GPS is not very smart for the return trip… I
should have just winged it but I was realizing I probably should have
had another layer on and I wanted to get back. So I put in the last
address I had and then realized I was further south than I thought and
had the GPS take me through the center of Raleigh……Ick!…

All in all I did almost 200 miles.. Certainly not a lot but considering
the threat of rain was just almost always there, and on top of that, I
was getting a bit chilled, I did pretty well I think… Tomorrow looks
like the weather will be a bit better so maybe I will head towards the
Blue Ridge mountain Range… Although I wish I could make it all the way
to the Dragon but I do not think it will happen on this trip.. Tune in
tomorrow (hopefully) for my next entry!

So this past weekend with the rain coming in heavily on Saturday it put a real damper on me doing any work on the trailer. With my daughter’s birthday party on Sunday afternoon I was concerned about time but with a bunch of help on Saturday my wife was nice enough to assure me all I should need to do on Sunday was help carry in groceries and hang the piñata. So order of the day was to set up the bounce house which had my son in his clothes for the first time ever on a weekend before 8 O’clock AM and then get to Lowes, then come back in build the trailer.

With setting up the bounce house done I started my trek to Lowes. Once there I started to look at lumber and formulate my plan in my head. The plan was going in multiple directions. My initial plan was to get just one 2×10 and put that on the trailer and I could customize the rest later. But then with 200 bucks worth of Lowes Birthday and XMAS gift cards burning a hole in my pocket I said screw it lets floor the whole thing

I soon realized my math skills that I never thought I would ever use were in need… and with no calculator in sight I had to do some math in my head…. SO… you know how that went… Actually, believe it or not, surprisingly well.. I picked up some 5/8×6 pressure treated deck lumber and a pressure treated 2×8 for a ramp, and a 2×4 to put under the trailer (I also had some scrap 2×6 boards at home that I would use as well.) to even up the spacing of carriage bolts. I then grabbed some pressure treated strapping for some guide rails for the Motorcycle tires. I had already purchased the Chock for the front wheel and straps I had bought with the trailer at Tractor Supply.

The trailer with floor, chock and rails..

Initially, I put the trailer decking down cut at length spaced with a nail to allow for water seepage using standard deck screws just to get spacing correct. I then replaced each screw one plank at a time with one single carriage bolt at spaced intervals from front to back. Essentially it worked out to 4 carriage bolts per plank. My first plan was I was going to use 8 carriage bolts per plank… I then realized that was just plain over kill not to mention expensive. Before I tackled the ends I mounted the chock and then mounted the guide rails with standard deck screws.

My math for planks was off or so I thought. Apparently my sub conscious was working for me. You see, I started with one plank at the very center of the trailer and worked my way to both sides. I then realized I had one plank left and 2 sides to do… DOH! But I then realized in looking at the problem, that I would have to make a long cut anyway to fit a plank. And I decided to use some of my scraps so there would essentially be 2 smaller planks per side. It worked out well I think, and I decided the sides would be more than fine with just standard deck screws instead of carriage bolts.

Before I could complete that though insert a few hours of my daughter entertaining her friends and opening her birthday presents. (Insert sounds of screaming kids and Happy Birthday being sung.)

Once everyone left I resumed work. I cut the end planks and after that I decided to try and get the motorcycle on. The initial motorcycle mount went OK but I realized the chock was to far back. So I remounted it as far forward with the motorcycle not only touching the chock but the front rail for the trailer

as well. With the other way the rear tire was sitting too far back to be able to remove the ramp…. OOOPS… Ok so maybe I should have ordered the 4×7 trailer… But it works and I’m very happy with the balance of the t

te ease which is a major bonus as the size of the trailer behind a GMC Yukon makes it almost impossible to back up.

Overall I’m happy with the results. Eventually, I will make

walls that are removable for motorcycle mode and the walls will be mounted for home improvement chores/dump runs.

One of the Perks of getting into a small company when it’s growing and staying with it after it has taken legs and gets absorbed by a large company is that You tend to be well known…..Especially if you are loud mouthed Dork like me…. But again, that has it’s perks. Like when the VP of your division walks up to you and says: ” Hey go see my assistant and tell her you and your wife are going with us to see Star Wars in Concert.”

The Symphony Performing the Imperial March

Like I was going to say no to attending a concert of my favorite movie music sitting in a VIP box seat… But to play it cool I said: “Uh… Oh!!!!! (Inside voice says: DON’T NERD OUT!!!!) I’ll Check with Dawn to be sure thank you I will let you know…” Dawn had looked into it before and had pretty much said: “90 bucks a ticket!?!?!” Plus at that price we were concerned about CJ actually being able to sit through the whole thing. Even with all the things I had read about it it’s a symphony…

I had heard it took a lot of coercion to get not only George Lucas to buy into it but John Williams was not very thrilled about it. As I understand it: John was very reluctant in the beginning. He was very skeptical, he didn’t want to do it.. His biggest concern was the quality of the performance. It wasn’t just that Williams wanted accomplished musicians playing his often-complex orchestrations. He was concerned there was another “Star Wars Christmas Special” on the horizon. And of course George Lucas, also needed to be assured there wouldn’t be dancing stormtroopers. (insert shudder) But, with a few performances both gave their nod for a worldwide tour.

The roughly two-hour show represents what I think is kind of an unusual combination… You see for many “Star Wars” fans(Myself included), perhaps this is the first time they’ll be seeing a symphony orchestra. But don’t expect contemplative silence between movements. Every instrument is amplified (a lot), and in addition to an amazing lasers show, we see flames and smoke and as the orchestra plays and the choir sings, a giant mix of high-definition Projection and LED screen (measuring what appears to be 60 feet wide and half as tall) shows clips from all six movies, the footage matched to the music. The footage unfolds in rough chronological order but also is organized around musical themes — a little romance here, the rise of the dark side there.

In between all this aural and visual spectacle you get the added bonus of Anthony Daniels, who lent his voice to the golden protocol droid C-3PO in all “Star Wars” movies, narrating the proceedings with enthusiasm and a bit of wit. As I watched and listened to him I became wrapped up in it. Then the music just sets you there into that galaxy far gar away… It was at that moment I came to the conclusion that whatever they paid John Williams for the music he created for “Star Wars,” it wasn’t enough. The sound of the great space opera is as singular and powerful as its alien visions, maybe even more so in some instances.

A display of one of members of the Jedi Order

I also realized that perhaps what I was witnessing is a mere hint of a glimpse of what may be happening in the future for whenever Mr. Williams passes. I realized that probably 2/3 of my all time movie favorites has his music in it. He even co-wrote Harry Potter. But Raiders, Close Encounters, E.T., Jurassic Park, Superman, Jaws, and on top of all those he composed music for Lost in Space the TV series as well as many other Erwin Allen Sci-Fi shows. The amount of musical contributions this guy has is really quite staggering..

After the show Dawn and I took the time to walk around the Verizon Center perimeter hallway to look at some of the exhibits of props and costumes. They were pretty cool but in retrospect they pale in comparison to the music.

So a few weeks ago the wheels were put in motion of whether or not we were going to load up the family and head down to NC for Thanksgiving to visit my In-Laws. To be honest at first I was not really looking forward to driving for 17 hours and getting there and realizing that every dam road I’m on down there is begging for my motorcycle to be ridden on them. At time you’re driving along and suddenly I can picture my below me wrestling this curve to submission… But then Dawn gave me a budget…

The answer to this problem was a trailer. I need a trailer to put the bike on and thus behind the family truckster I could bring my “trusty Steed” and thus spend a few hours carving out some of those twistys that had beckoned me on previous visits. Now it was just up to me to find one and hopefully do it within Dawn’s budget. But I didn’t want just a Motorcycle trailer… I wanted it to be multi-purpose. I wanted it big enough for the bike in one configuration and then I wanted it to be able to haul lumber, firewood, and those miscellaneous large items you buy at Home Depot and or Lowes that will not fit inside the Yukon.

Surfing the internet I was on craigslist, Lowes, Home Depot and even individual trailer mfg websites. I was on Tractor Supply’s Website when I initially found a floorless trailer for $349.. None of my Local TSC’s could get one in time for me to modify, floor and whatever. It was while visiting the MFG website (carry-on) that I discovered a startling revelation. The $349 Trailer was only capable of hauling 700lbs. Indeed after seeing that stat and looking at the enlarged picture I could see why. Very small angle iron and as I had already looked at a few 5×10 trailers at Home Depot that flexed could only imagine that thing was no better.

4x6 Trailer from Tractor Supply

I decided to visit the Tractor Supply Company directly and in illuminated nighttime lighting I looked at their 4×6 trailer that was marked at $399.. Now I know you might be thinking that’s barely large enough. Actually, I think it is more than enough. It has a Mesh floor that I think next year’s project will be to use the grinder I have for my air tank and put a pressure treated floor on. It barely flexed at all like the 5×7 and 5×10. It does not have a ramp but that’s OK I can make ramps. And it has a much beefier 1700lb rating. I decided to Purchase the spare tire and mount which to be honest almost cost just as much as the trailer but I figure playing against Murphy means if I buy the Spare I will not need it but if I do not have it I will need it. (Murphy was an optimist.)

of the 4x6 Trailer from Tractor Supply

In the midst of all this a friend of mine who had much the same dilemma sent me a link to what he did to last year’s(possibly earlier) model of a 4×7 that had a ramp. He put a floor on it and all so I grabbed a lot of “Idea’rs” from him. Like I said before I think a hardwood floor will be installed. I think the center one will be a swappable 2×10 piece so that I can maintain the multi-purpose aspect. I think a heavy stake siding will be modified with a back Gate that is removable so that 8 foot sections of wood can be elevated at the back or front to prevent sliding off during travel…

For now I will place a 2×10 plank of pressure treated that I will also place some small strapping on and I have already ordered one of the cheaper Motorcycle chocks for the front wheel.. I have also already purchased the tie downs and picked up the Canyon Dancer II Handlebar Cuffs so I do not have to worry about my controls getting fubared by the straps. I will also pick up the ramp ends and I’m thinking I might get some fiberglass rods to get some visibility for backing up that will of course be avoided at all costs because backing up a short trailer with the Yukon is well… a Challenge…

I’m now looking forward to not only a cool trip to NC (because I can do some riding and be with family) but also a very cool project that I will try and document as I go along..
