My Core Beliefs/Values

I’ll be honest. I’m not even really sure “Why” I’m writing this. Perhaps it’s because I listed why I am a RINO in another blog entry and it got me thinking… What defines me? What are my beliefs and are they compatible with those who I surround myself with?

Well, Let’s find out. So, in no particular order here are the beliefs that I feel define “me as a person” and “individual” in the society I live in. I call it “My Beliefs:”

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!

Some of my Beliefs may not be compatible with yours and if so….. Tough Shit…..

 

1)      I DO believe in a common sense government and that compromise is a fundamental requirement of government and governing. Compromise is not a weakness

2)      I DO believe self-awareness is NOT just a bunch of amino acids bumping together.

3)      I DO NOT believe God could expect His creatures to pick the one “true religion” by faith – it strikes me as a sloppy way to run a universe.

4)      I DO Believe Man is what he is. A wild animal with the will to survive, and (so far) the ability to survive against all competition. Unless one accepts that, anything one says about morals, war, politics–you name it–is nonsense.

5)      I DO Believe “correct morals” arise from knowing what man is–not what do-gooders and well-meaning old Aunt Nellies would like him to be. Possibly the most important discovery we have made about ourselves is that Man is a Wild Animal. He cannot be tamed and remain Man; his genius is bound up in the very qualities which make him wild.

6)      I DO Believe “Common Wisdom” and “Common Sense” are the same thing and are attributes that have been abandoned by most Americans alive today.

7)      I DO Believe The supreme irony of life is that nobody gets out of it alive…

8)      I DO Believe The answer to any question starting with, “Why don’t they-” is almost always, “Money.”

9)      I DO Believe The problem with having a sense of humor is often that the people you use it on aren’t in a very good mood.

10)   I Do Believe Doctor Who is the best television concept yet written and is supremely underrated.

11)   I DO believe in “Free Market Capitalism” however, it has to be open to a “World Economy” in order to survive.

12)   I DO NOT believe anyone in government and/or otherwise, should be involved in a woman’s choice. It is up to her to live with that choice.

13)   I DO believe all people should be held accountable for their own actions.

14)   I DO NOT believe anyone in America ,or the world, is entitled to anything but their own ability to “get a Job on their own.”

15)   I DO believe that if you kill a man or a woman to steal or take personal possessions you deserve to die.

16)   I DO believe that if you kill a man or a woman while preventing them from stealing, and/or harming your family you should walk free.

17)   I DO believe every Man and Woman in America should be able to carry a weapon

18)   I DO NOT believe the attack on 9/11 was staged by the US government.

19)   I DO believe if you make a statement that says a person who proclaims to be a Republican or a Democrat is a “waste of genetic material” that you should look in the mirror.

20)   I DO believe that if life gives you Oranges, you should make Orange Juice… And then try to find somebody whose life has given them vodka, and then have a party…

21)   I DO believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It’s just that the translations have gone horribly wrong.

22)   I DO NOT believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect, has intended us to forgo their use.

23)   I DO believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.

24)   I DO believe those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. However you are still responsible for committing them.

25)   I DO believe that people do not believe lies because they have to, but because they want to. They do not spread those lies because they have to, they spread them because they want to.

26)   I DO believe that I deserved my enemies, but I DO NOTt believe I deserved my friends.

27)   I DO believe Men’s minds do not work the way a Woman’s mind does and they will never understand each other. Yet they also can’t get along without each other.

28)   I DO NOT believe Dying is difficult. Even a baby kitten can do it… It’s the living thing that is hard…

29)   I DO believe “Climate” is what you expect, “Weather” is what you get.

30)   I DO NOT believe that there is anywhere in written history that the majority was right.

31)   I DO believe people laugh because life hurts… because it’s the only thing that’ll make life stop hurting.

32)   I DO believe kissing is underrated.

33)   I DO believe that ‘Love’ is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own

34)   I DO believe that at least once every human should have to run for his/her life, to teach him/her that milk does not come from supermarkets, that safety does not come from policemen, that “news” is not something that happens to other people.

35)   I DO NOT believe that having your back scratched is the only reason to be married, but it is a good one, especially for those spots that are so hard to reach by yourself.

36)   I DO believe that we are all the same. And there is no difference between a saint and a scoundrel. It is often demonstrated  during the necessity of having to decide between two things you want when you can’t have both. The ordinary jerk suffers every time he chooses between spending a buck on beer or tucking it away for his kids, between getting up to go to work and losing his job. But he always chooses that which hurts least or pleasures most. The scoundrel and the saint make the same choices.

37)   I DO NOT believe Democracy may be the best system there is, but it’s the best we have.

38)   I DO believe that I’m a coward by trade and I wear prescription glasses as a buffer for when some douche snarls, “Take off your glasses!” that gives me time to run far away. Most cowards live for another day.

39)   I DO Believe (Myself included) more people worry themselves to death than bleed to death.

40)   I DO NOT believe that a good education is always gained by attending a college.

41)   I DO believe morality is your agreement with yourself to abide by your own rules.

42)   I DO believe most people can’t think, most of the remainder won’t think, the small fraction who do think mostly can’t do it very well…

43)   I DO believe given time and plenty of paper, a philosopher can prove anything. But it still will not necessarily be the truth.

44)   I DO NOT believe that “With age brings Wisdom.” However, it can lend perspective.

45)   I DO believe that “Where “Cat” is, is civilization.”

46)   I DO NOT believe that anyone should ever underestimate the power of human stupidity.

47)   I DO believe women are much more rugged then men… Don’t believe me? Ask a man who has ever changed a diaper and almost puked while doing it… Now ask a woman…. Enough said…

48)   I DO believe that A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, cook a meal, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, use a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, and die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

49)   I DO NOT believe anyone should ever become a pessimist, a pessimist is correct more oftener than an optimist, but an optimist has much more fun. However, neither can stop the march of events.

50)   I DO believe religion has to be the most preposterous notion that H. Sapiens has ever dreamed up.  The very idea that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery is just preposterous to me. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all history.
